Eating disorders used to be associated primarily with young, emaciated white women. The truth is so much more complex. Clients describe symptoms of restriction, binge eating, purging, laxative and diuretic abuse, insulin manipulation, compulsive exercise, chewing and spitting, and so much more. The following diagnoses are simply classifications for insurance purposes, but not everyone fits neatly into one category. Eating disorders are a spectrum of behaviors driven by a variety of factors including psychological, environmental, and physical elements. We are here to treat the person, not the disease, which is why this section is titled “diagnoses we see.”
